India to Intensify Unconventional Hydrocarbon Exploration

With energy demand-supply gap set to increase further, India is likely to intensify efforts to explore for oil and gas, especially unconventional hydrocarbon sources  in India as well as abroad, Jaipal Reddy, Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas said Monday.

The government is planning to increase hydrocarbon exploration and production in the country. The country also will step up development of unconventional sources of hydrocarbons like coal bed methane, shale gas and gas hydrates.

The minister said that Directorate General of Hydrocarbon has entered into MoU’s with counterparts in other countries for R&D activities relating to new areas of exploration like shale gas, gas hydrate,  etc.
