India-US to form hydrogen task force
India and the US will soon launch a task force on hydrogen under the Strategic Energy Partnership between the two countries, US deputy secretary of energy, David Turk told the Hydrogen Economy - New Delhi Dialogue 2021 on April 15.
“The public-private task force will help expand the use of hydrogen in our countries, leveraging competencies from our respective ministries as well as industry partners to facilitate the broadscale commercialisation of hydrogen technologies,” he said.
Turk said that the task force will focus on production, transportation, industrial use, and hydrogen as an energy storage medium. “We will also explore financial structures and incentives that will need to be present to ensure hydrogen’s success,” he added.
The US-India Strategic Energy Partnership was launched in 2018 to cooperate on power and energy efficiency, oil and gas, renewable energy, and sustainable growth.
Turk said that only through joint efforts and actions, on hydrogen and other emerging technologies, "we will be able to achieve deep decarbonisation and meet critical climate and clean energy goals".
During the same webinar, Adnoc CEO Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber said that his company is keen to work with the Indian public and private sector to develop the hydrogen market for India’s growing demand for energy.
