India's gas consumption rises in September
India's natural gas consumption in September was 5.25bn m3, up 11% year/year, according to provisional data published by the country's oil and gas ministry's Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) on October 23.
For the first six months of the current financial year (FY2024), which began on April 1, the cumulative consumption of natural gas was 32.62bn m3, up 6.6% year/year.
The gross production of natural gas in India was 3bn m3 in September 2023, up 6.1% compared with the corresponding month of the previous year. The cumulative gross production of natural gas for the first six months of FY2024 was 17.88bn m3, up 4% year/year.
The growth in natural gas consumption in India is being driven by a number of factors, including the expanding use of natural gas in the city gas distribution (CGD) sector. According to ICRA, compressed natural gas (CNG) is expected to be the key driver of gas demand growth within the CGD sector in India.
