Indraprastha Gas selects EverEnviro to set up CBG plants in India
EverEnviro Resource Management, based in Gurugram, has been selected by city gas company Indraprastha Gas (IGL) to set up multiple compressed biogas (CBG) plants in India, it said on February 8. The CBG produced at these plants will be directly integrated into IGL's city gas distribution network.
IGL, on February 7, entered into a memorandum of understanding with two technology partners to establish 19 CBG plants across four states in India. The goal of this partnership is to produce 0.45 million m3/day of biogas from waste, equivalent to approximately 5% of IGL's daily requirements.
In September 2023, EverEnviro formed a joint venture with Indian Oil Corporation in a 50:50 partnership to set up CBG plants nationwide.
Currently, EverEnviro is actively working on about 20 CBG projects in states such as Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Punjab, with a capital investment of nearly 20bn rupees ($240mn). These projects are expected to yield an output of 320 tonnes/day of CBG.
The initiative aligns with the Indian government's announcement on November 25, mandating the phased blending of CBG in compressed natural gas (CNG) and domestic piped natural gas (PNG) segments starting the fiscal year 2025-26. Experts suggest that this move will not only contribute to environmental sustainability but also result in a reduction of costly imported LNG, thereby helping India save precious foreign exchange.
