Isesaki Gas, Inpex sign gas carbon neutralisation pact

Japanese gas distributor Isesaki Gas and energy company Inpex Corporation on June 29 jointly announced their agreement on the carbon neutralisation of gas.

Under this agreement, Isesaki Gas has purchased carbon neutral gas from Inpex and has successfully converted the natural gas used at its head office in Gunma Prefecture into carbon neutral gas.

Isesaki Gas is currently preparing to introduce environmentally friendly carbon neutral gas in stages to customers in the region. The company will actively engage in activities aimed at decarbonising local communities, ultimately striving to achieve a carbon neutral society by 2050, the companies said.

Inpex aims to make its oil and natural gas business cleaner by implementing various initiatives. The company's long-term strategy extends to 2030 and 2050, while its medium-term business plan outlines specific goals and actions for the period from 2022 to 2024, aligning with changes in the company's management environment. Inpex will collaborate closely with city gas business operators to which it supplies wholesale natural gas.

Carbon neutral gas and carbon neutral city gas are achieved through the use of carbon credits certified by credible certifiers. These credits result from efforts to reduce CO2 emissions in global forest conservation projects and other initiatives worldwide. The entire value chain process, from development to combustion, is taken into account to offset greenhouse gas emissions effectively.
