Chevron, KGOC to deliver Wafra gas to Kuwait
US major Chevron and Kuwait Gulf Oil Company (KGOC) have signed a memorandum of understanding to deliver surplus gas from the Wafra joint operations area to Kuwaiti refineries, the state-run KUNA news service reported on January 10.
The Wafra area spans 5,000 km2 of the Saudi Arabian-Kuwaiti neutral zone, established by the British in 1922. KGOC represents the Kuwaiti state at the project, while Saudi Arabian Chevron represents Saudi Arabia.
KGOC's acting CEO Muhammad Salem Al-Haimer said he expected exports to begin on January 10, at an initial rate of 12mn ft3/day. Over the next five months this will increase to 40-50mn ft3/d, he said, rising to 80-100mn ft3/d after four years.
Exporting the gas is expected to minimise flaring.
