Korea LNG Bunkering completes first SIMOPS on container ship in Korea
Korea LNG Bunkering, a subsidiary of Kogas, successfully completed simultaneous bunkering operations (SIMOPS) on a container ship for the first time in Korea, utilising its dedicated LNG bunkering vessel, Blue Whale, the company announced on August 9.
During the operation, Blue Whale supplied 300 tonnes of LNG via ship-to-ship transfer to the CMA-CGM Visby, which was unloading containers at Pier 5 of Busan New Port.
SIMOPS involves supplying LNG fuel to a ship while it simultaneously unloads cargo, thereby reducing additional anchoring time and associated costs.
A company official stated, "We will continue to promote LNG bunkering to advance the domestic shipping industry’s eco-friendly transition and contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of national ports."
