McDermott lands FEED deal for second Qatari North Field expansion
McDermott International has secured a front-end engineering and design (FFED) contract from QatarEnergy for the second-phase expansion of the North Field LNG project, it said on August 10.
The contract covers offshore pipelines and power and fibre optic cables for the North Field South (NFS) expansion, which will increase Qatar's liquefaction capacity from 110mn metric tons/year to 126mn mt/yr. Construction is already underway on the North Field East (NFE) project, which will increase capacity from the current 77mn mt/yr.

McDermott will manage the FEED study from its office in Doha. The latest contract adds to another one for engineering, procurement, construction and installation services for the offshore scope of both NFE and NFS.
First LNG is expected from NFE in 2025, followed by the launch of production at NFS towards the end of the decade.
