McDermott secures EPCI contract for Manatee gas project offshore Trinidad and Tobago
Engineering company McDermott has secured an engineering, procurement, construction, installation (EPCI), hook-up, and commissioning contract from Shell for the Manatee gas field development project, located off the southeast coast of Trinidad and Tobago, it announced on August 12.
This contract follows McDermott’s earlier work on the project's front-end engineering design, detailed engineering, and long lead procurement services, which laid the groundwork for the initial design and execution planning.
Under the contract, McDermott will be responsible for designing, procuring, fabricating, hooking up, and commissioning a platform and jacket. The company will also handle the design, installation, and commissioning of a 32-inch gas pipeline that will connect the platform to Shell’s gas processing facility. Additionally, the contract includes the design, procurement, installation, and testing of a fiber optic cable.
The Manatee field is part of the cross-border Loran-Manatee discovery, which is shared between Trinidad and Venezuela. It holds approximately 10 trillion ft3 of natural gas, with 7.3 trillion ft3 located on the Venezuelan side and 2.7 trillion ft3 on the Trinidadian side.
Shell decided to proceed with the project last month. According to Shell, gas from the Manatee field will be used to supply Trinidad's Atlantic LNG facility.
