Myanmar Gas Export May Touch $4bn
Myanmar’s gas exports for 2012-2013 are likely to reach $4 billion as they have already surpassed last year’s record of $3.5 billion.
Eleven Myanmar newspaper said in a report that gas exports have risen in value by about 75 percent since fiscal year 2006 when they totalled about $2 billion.
Next fiscal the figures are expected to get a further boost as the Shwe Gas project will likley begin exporting in May and the Zawtika project by December.
Myanmar is poised to reap billions of dollars in annual revenue from the export of gas and other natural resources. However, the newspaper quoting analysts said that for the windfall to fully materialise, the government need to be transparent.
