Chevron to Sell Stake in Oldest Oz LNG Plant

Chevron plans to sell its minority share in the North West Shelf (NWS) LNG liquefaction plant in Western Australia, the company told press.

The Big Picture:

  • Its partners, which besides Chevron include Woodside Energy, Shell, BP and BHP Billiton, have invested $34bn in the plant to date.
  • "Chevron will continue to focus on squeezing maximum value from its large LNG projects, Gorgon and Wheatstone, without the distractions of the NWS," Wood Mackenzie analyst David Low said.

 


Hiroshima Gas, Tokyo Gas Receive 1st Joint LNG Cargo

The first joint LNG cargo procured by Japanese utilities Hiroshima Gas and Tokyo Gas and transported by Tokyo LNG Tanker Co. arrived at the Hatsukaichi LNG terminal in Hiroshima on June 15, the two utilities said in a joint statement the same day.

 

The Big Picture:

  • The commingling cargo arrived under the LNG transportation agreement that was signed by Hiroshima Gas, Tokyo Gas and Tokyo LNG Tanker in February 2020.

 


Natural Gas Added to US Alt-Fuel Program

A US House of Representatives committee meeting has added natural gas and propane to a national program aimed at increasing the use of alternative fuel vehicles.

 

The Big Picture:

  • Earlier American legislation passed in 2015 created a national program for expanding alternative fuel vehicle use through alternative fuel corridors, but it didn’t provide grant funding for the build-out of alternative fuel transportation infrastructure.

 


Gazprom Seeks to Revise Permit for Building NS2

The Nord Stream 2 (NS2) operating company has requested that its permit to build the pipeline through Danish waters is revised to allow for the use of anchored vessels, it told NGW.

 

The Big Picture:

  • Gazprom had hoped to complete NS2 before the end of last year but this plan was thwarted by Denmark's delay in issuing the necessary permits. As NGW has reported, Russia wants to use its own pipelaying vessels to finish the job.
