Naturgy to supply biomethane to Barcelona-based paper company Lecta

Spanish energy company Naturgy announced on July 9 that it will supply biomethane to Barcelona-based paper company Lecta.

The biomethane will be used at Lecta's production centers in Leitza (Navarra) and Zaragoza. This marks Naturgy's second industrial agreement for the sale of biomethane, following an agreement signed last January with Inditex.

The renewable gas supplied by Naturgy comes with certified guarantees of origin and sustainability tests, allowing Lecta to offset emissions from its activities and comply with its sustainability commitments. The volume of supply agreed upon is equivalent to the annual gas consumption of more than 800 households and will prevent the emission of 740 tonnes of CO2 equivalent, which is comparable to the emissions of 500 cars, according to Naturgy.

Naturgy manages a portfolio of projects nationwide at various stages of development. In addition to the three RNG plants in operation at the Bens WWTP, Cerdanyola del Vallès, and Vila-Sana, two other facilities in advanced development or construction in Utiel and Utrera will be added in the coming months. The Vila-Sana plant was inaugurated this month.
