Norway Announces Total E&P Gas Find Near Norne Field
The Norwegian Petroleum Dictorate (NDP) has announced that Total E&P Norge AS have discovered oil and gas around eight kilometres from the Norne field. The resources were found during two initial rounds of exploration.
The wildcat well was initially installed to search for petroleum expected to be present in the area. However, gas was found in the first and second exploration of the area. The NDP says that the well has not yet been formation tested, but that sampling and data acquisition has taken place. The well has been temporarily plugged and abandoned.
The NDP gave details of the well as follows:
"The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 4245 metres below the sea surface and terminated in early Jurassic rocks (Åre formation). The water depth is 369 metres."
"Preliminary estimates of the size of the discovery are between 3 and 16 million Sm3 recoverable oil equivalents," the NDP said. "Development of the discovery will be considered in conjunction with other fields in the area."
This is the second exploration well that the company has built under production licence 127.
