Poland Awards Baltic Pipe Compressors Job

Polish state-owned gas grid operator, Gaz-System has signed three agreements with Polish contractor Gazoprojekt to develop design documentation for gas compressor stations in Poland under the Baltic Pipe project from Denmark to Poland.

Three separate tenders were held, and in each case Gazoprojekt submitted the best offer, Gaz-System said December 20. The contractor will be responsible for obtaining all necessary arrangements, approvals, opinions, permits and decisions for the compressor stations and have overall supervision for investment project implementation.

Gazoprojekt will be handling the expansion of gas compressor stations at Goleniow and Odolanow, along with the system hub and ancillary infrastructure, plus construction of a new gas compressor station at Gustorzyn, which Gaz-System says are "crucial for the effective operation of the Polish transmission system" given increased flows that will enter that system through the LNG terminal at Swinoujscie, as well as through Baltic Pipe itself.

Gaz-System has already contracted Denmark's Ramboll Denmark for survey and design works required to obtain relevant building permits for the offshore Baltic Pipe pipeline.

Gaz-System said the Baltic-Pipe project – which it is implementing with Danish partner Energinet – consists of five key components: a tie-in pipeline to the Norwegian offshore pipeline in the North Sea to the terminal in Denmark; increasing the capacity of the Danish onshore transmission system; a gas compressor station in Zealand, Denmark; the offshore interconnecting gas pipeline from Denmark to Poland, along with a receiving terminal; and relevant upgrading of the Polish gas transmission system.
