Poland Awards Design Job to Tractebel

Polish gas grid operator Gaz-System said March 2 that last month it signed a contract with Tractebel Engineering, part of French group Engie, to design part of the planned 'Warsaw Ring' pipeline (Pierscien Warszawski).

The award to Tractebel Engineering, signed February 23, is to prepare the design documentation for the construction of a section of the 30-km Rembelszczyzna-Mory pipeline section which will have a diameter of 0.7 metres.

Gaz-System said it marks the start of the design stage for the strategic section of 'Warsaw Ring', a key part of the energy security of the Warsaw metropolitan area as the authorities fight against smog. It will also provide further development opportunities for the gas market in the surrounding Mazovia region. The company will start organising open meetings this month with affected residents.

It added that the section is a part of the Rembelszczyzna - Mory - Wola Karczewska pipeline, and it will be implemented under a 2009 Act on investment projects related to the Swinoujscie LNG terminal, known as the “special purpose gas act”. Gaz-System's March 2 release was published in English on March 8. No figures were included for the Warsaw Ring's estimated final cost, or for this partial design contract.
