Prelude FLNG Offline after Power Failure: Press

Shell has temporarily shut down production at its Prelude floating LNG plant off northwest Australia following a power failure on February 2, a company spokeswoman told Reuters on February 4.

Prelude, launched in June last year, exports around 3.6mn mt/yr of LNG, primarily to Asia-Pacific markets. It is jointly owned by Shell, Japan’s Inpex, Korea Gas and Taiwan’s CPC.

Work is being carried out to restore operations, the Shell representative said.

“Due to some technical issues, there was a delay in starting up the back-up diesel generators which impacted certain amenities on board,” she explained. “These issues are being resolved, and we have made the proactive decision to temporarily reduce the number of people on board.”
