PTTEP chalks up another Malaysian find
Thailand's PTTEP has reported another discovery off the coast of Malaysia, after drilling a well at the SK405B block.
The Sirung-1 was drilled to a depth of 2,538 m, encountering a more than 100-m oil and gas column, PTTEP said in a statement on March 30. The company plans to sink an appraisal well soon to assess upside potential. The latest find follows two more discoveries by PTTEP off Malaysia in February, at blocks SK410B and SK417.

SK405B is situated in shallow waters some 137 km from the the coast of Sarawak. PTTEP operates the project with a 59.5% interest, while Japan's Mitsui has 25.5% and Petronas 15%. The Thai firm said it planned to explore nearby prospects within the block next year.
PTTEP is a key player in Malaysia, producing hydrocarbons at blocks K, SK309 and SK311, the Rotan-Buloh field in block H and at gas deposits jointly operated with Petronas in the Malaysia-Thailand joint development area. It also has an interest in the MLNG Train 9 liquefaction plant in Sarawak, as well as various exploration acreage.
