Romania Starts Work on Pipe to Bring Midia Gas
Construction has begun on a subsea pipeline to bring gas from Black Sea Oil & Gas (BSOG)'s offshore Midia development to shore, Romania's government said on September 17.
Romanian prime minister Ludovic Orban attended a ceremony on September 17 to mark the occasion, describing it as a "symbolic moment" for the $400mn Midia project, which he said was "fundamental" for Romania's economic development.
BSOG agreed with Romania on the 24.4-km pipeline's development a year ago. It is expected online in 2021, coinciding with Midia's launch. Production is expected to plateau at 1bn m3/yr.
BSOG, majority owned by private equity group Carlyle but with a small stake also held by the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development, took a final investment decision (FID) on Midi in early 2019.
