Saudi Arabia, Japan sign pact on clean energy

Saudi Arabia and Japan have signed a memorandum of cooperation in the fields of the circular carbon economy (CCE), carbon recycling, clean hydrogen and fuel ammonia, the Saudi energy ministry said on December 25.

The memorandum was signed during the first ministerial meeting for Japan Saudi Energy Ministerial Dialogue that was held in Riyadh between Saudi energy minister Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz and the Japanese minister of economy, trade and industry Yasutoshi Nishimura.

The Saudi energy ministry said that in order to realise a carbon-neutral society, it is necessary to focus on emissions rather than energy source through the effective deployment of CCE and carbon recycling technologies.

Nishimura is visiting Saudi Arabia and Oman to discuss energy ties. He was in Saudia Arabia until December 27 and will be in Oman on December 27.

Japan will cooperate extensively with Saudi Arabia in the field of clean energy, Nishimura said on Twitter.
