South Pars Phases 15, 16 to Come Online Next Week
Phases 15 and 16 of Iran's South Pars gas field will become operational next week, reported Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) Wednesday.
The two phases are expected to contribute extensively to Iran’s overall sweet gas production, the news agency said.
South Pars covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers lies in Iran's territorial waters (South Pars) in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers, referred to as the North Dome, lies in Qatar's territorial waters.
Iran is hoping to lift production from the giant gas field by inviting foreign energy firms to exploit the resources. With western sanctions on Iran expected to go soon, Tehran has been in talks with numerous entities regarding development of its energy resources.
