TAP Fully In Line with Third Energy Package and Can Transport Further Supplies from Azerbaijan

Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) is the final leg of the current design of the Southern Gas Corridor and is important for the successful realisation of this alternative energy corridor. The initial capacity of the pipeline - i.e. 10 bcm/a is third party access (TPA) exempted and will be utilised to deliver 10 bcm/a Shah Deniz II gas to the European customers from 2020 onwards.

The expansion capacity of the pipeline - i.e. additional 10 bcm/a (in total 20 bcm/a) can be built whenever there is market demand. Construction of both initial and expansion capacity of TAP is fully in line with the provisions of the Third Energy Package, which does not place any restrictions on further gas supplies from Azerbaijan via this pipeline.

Azerbaijan’s gas export potential will increase considerably in the coming decades and the country is committed to playing a strategic role in providing secure energy supplies to the European Union.

Natural Gas Europe wishes to provide this clarification to a previous published article, which incorrectly implies that further gas supplies from Azerbaijan could not be transported via the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline.
