Turkey to Continue Buying Gas from Iran

Iran will continue to buy natural gas from Iran despite international sanctions, Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was quoted by Iranian media as saying.

"We have always told officials that the issue is of strategic importance to us and we couldn't comply with the sanctions," the Turkish prime minister said, Press TV reported. 

Turkey also imports Iranian oil but has been granted exemptions from sanctions in return for significant cuts in the level of its purchases.

The Obama administration has not publicly commented on the latest sanction proposals but has privately raised concerns that they do not provide enough "waiver flexibility", according to Carl Levin, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Reuters said.
