UK to Assist Pakistan in Shale Gas Exploration

Pakistan and the UK will enhance expert level cooperation for the development of oil and gas sector in Pakistan, particularly for extraction of shale gas.

Pakistan’s Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Dr. Asim Hussain discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation in this context with Simon Toole, Head of Licensing, Exploration and Development at the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change.

Dr. Hussain said that Pakistan has high quality gas resources that could be offered for exploration once seismic surveys are conducted. Mr. Toole offered to assist Pakistan in this respect saying that UK companies have good experience in this field.

The Minister discussed the potential of shale gas exploration in Pakistan.

Mr. Toole briefed the Minister on sources of gas supply in the UK, including shale gas exploration, saying that though the UK’s experience with this form of unconventional was fairly new, it has received support from Parliament
