Ukraine: South Stream an Attempt to Pressure Us

President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovic believes that the construction of South Stream gas pipeline has been started to exert tension over the Ukrainian authorities. That is what Yanukovic said in an interview broadcast on December 24 for Inter, ICTV and Ukraine television channels, UNIAN reported.

“We are holding very intricate talks offering Ukrainian project for modernization of Ukrainian gas transport system instead of construction of South Stream. That is unpleasant issue for both Russia and Ukraine in view of the fact that it is very unfavorable for us natural gas to surround the territory of Ukraine. We must create all necessary conditions for guarantees – technical and political – to both Russia and the EU that Ukraine is a reliable partner”, Yanukovic said.
