Uzbekistan Chalks Up Two More Gas Discoveries
Uzbekistan has reported two more gas discoveries, as it continues its search for new resources to underpin production growth.
National oil company Uzbekneftegaz (UNG) said on July 11 it had identified the Chakar gas deposit in the eastern Andijan region. A 1,710-metre well drilled there achieved a commercial flow rate of 300,000 m3/day of gas, it said. The company plans to undertake further studies and sink two more boreholes at the site.
In a separate statement, UNG also announced the discovery of the Aralyk field in the western Karakalpakstan province, noting that a 3,910-metre well had flowed gas at a rate of 700,000-800,000 m3/day.
“In the near future, work will be carried out testing potential productive horizons at the well, and gas condensate studies were conducted to clarity the layers’ parameters,” UNG said. The company intends to drill two more wells at Aralyk as well.
The recent finds come just days after local state media reported that UNG had found another new gas condensate field in the western Ustyurt area.
