Wintershall Drills Norwegian Duster

German explorer Wintershall drew a blank with wildcat 6706/6-2 S in production licence 847, upstream regulator Norwegian Petroleum Directorate said February 18. The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.

The well was about 60 km north of the Aasta Hansteen field and 310 km northwest of Sandnessjøen in the northern part of the Norwegian Sea. There were traces of gas in both the reservoir levels in the upper Cretaceous. It was the first exploration well in the licence, which was awarded in APA 2015.
