Woodside reports fatality at North Rankin offshore Australia
Australian energy company Woodside on June 2 reported a fatality at its North Rankin Complex located offshore Western Australia. The incident occurred during work activity at the complex and resulted in the death of an employee from one of Woodside's contractor companies. However, all other individuals present at the facility are reported to be safe.
“This is a very sad day for the extended Woodside family and I offer my deepest sympathy to our colleague’s family, friends and workmates,” Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill said.
Senior Woodside executives are traveling to Karratha to provide support, and counseling services are being made available to employees and contractors through the company's Employee Assistance Programme, it said.
The North Rankin Complex is an integrated facility consisting of the interconnected North Rankin A and North Rankin B platforms, along with associated subsea infrastructure. It handles the production of dry gas and condensate from the North Rankin, Perseus, and Persephone fields. The gas and condensate are processed on the complex and then transported to the onshore Karratha Gas Plant via two trunklines.
