ABB wins contract to power Jansz-Io Compression project
ABB on August 19 said it had been appointed by Chevron Australia and Aker Solutions to provide power from shore and subsea long step-out to Jansz-Io field.
The company has won an order worth approximately $120mn to supply the overall electrical power system for the Jansz-Io Compression (J-IC) project. The order, comprising contracts with Chevron Australia and with Aker Solutions, is booked in Q3 2021.

The Jansz-Io field is located around 200 km offshore the north-western coast of Australia, at water depths of approximately 1,400 m. The field is a part of the Chevron-operated Gorgon natural gas project, one of the world’s largest natural gas developments.
Chevron on July 1 said it will proceed with the approximately $4bn J-IC project. A modification of the existing Gorgon development, the project will involve the construction and installation of a 27,000 metric ton floating field control station, approximately 6,500 mt of subsea compression infrastructure and a 135 km submarine power cable linked to Barrow Island. Construction and installation activities are estimated to take approximately five years to complete.
Chevron Australia is the operator and a partner in the Gorgon joint venture. The Chevron-operated Gorgon project is a joint venture between the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron, ExxonMobil, Shell, Osaka Gas, Tokyo Gas and Jera.
