Novatek, Siemens to Decarbonise LNG Production

Russian LNG exporter Novatek has signed a strategic pact with Germany's Siemens Energy to jointly develop high-tech solutions to produce LNG, electricity and hydrogen and other products to reduce their carbon footprint. Under their agreement, the pair will launch a project to replace gas with carbon-neutral hydrogen in power generation.

Siemens has worked as a key equipment supplier at Novatek's Yamal LNG and Arctic LNG-2 projects in the Russian Arctic.

"Our strategy to expand LNG production in the Arctic region is based on utilising state-of-the-art technological solutions that meet and/or exceed stringent environmental requirements," Novatek said on December 10. "Our further collaboration with Siemens Energy to decarbonise our LNG production will contribute significantly to the mitigation of climate change, which is of paramount importance to reduce our carbon footprint in the Arctic ecosystem."
