Pakistan Reports New Gas Find
Pakistan Petroleum (PPL) has reported a hydrocarbon discovery in Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan.
The well at PPL’s 100%-owned Margand block flowed at a daily rate of 10.7mn ft3 of gas and 132 barrels of liquids, the state-owned company said in a statement. The rate may become higher after acid stimulation work.
“This is the first gas discovery on the Kalat plateau and it has opened a new sub-basin for further hydrocarbon exploration,” PPL said, attributing the find to its “aggressive” exploration strategy at frontier basins.
Pakistan is a net importer of gas. Its consumption totalled 43.6bn m3 last year, according to BP data, while production reached only 34.2bn m3.
